Liberating Clinical Information

So much of the information required to treat patients is locked into individual silos, and the ability to free up this information for use across care boundaries is limited by lack of true interoperability between systems. With the current aim to give patients access to their records too, there is another reason to open up clinical systems and persuade the suppliers to cooperate with each other. There are many methods which could be used, but lack of defined standards has hampered progress. The information governance aspects of sharing identifiable data are not well understood, and there are privacy enhancing technologies which could be used if they were more widely known about.
