Applications for the 2023-2024 Nursing Philosophy Fellowship are Now Open!
"The Center for Nursing Philosophy Fellowship program supports promising nursing PhD students or interested nursing faculty to pursue targeted scholarship in nursing philosophy. The PhD Nursing Fellowship comes with a small stipend to be used at the fellow’s discretion for support during the fellowship period. The fellowship is a 1-quarter (10 week) commitment for intensive mentored scholarship in the Center for Nursing Philosophy (either virtually or in person depending on context), followed by 2 additional 10-week quarters of virtual mentorship to support scholarship completion. The expectation is that the end of the Fellowship corresponds with submission of the completed scholarship as a manuscript for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
The application period opens June 1 of each year.

MEMO TO: New College of Humanities and London Interdisciplinary School
Re. "Introduction to Lifelong Learning 101"
Since 1998, when I first went 'online' I've always been conscious of etiquette and note how this has changed - developed - over the years. The email associated with the former website domain p-jones.demon.co.uk saw a lot of emails to quite a diverse range of mail lists. Should I? Should I not? These questions remain a key consideration in trying to spread the thought and word on Hodges' model.
Stepping on toes a couple of times, someone also asked about links to blog posts on LinkedIn. Not had those queries recently so I think readers understand the 2x2 table is critical to the post in representing the model. Twitter presents its own challenges [ #WasteOfTime ]. So please pardon my shouting, but there's an important message here about an important resource.
I've lapsed again with no progress on the new site - maybe it is not just vapourware but a dream.
The creation of new education institutions:

Does it, really - and by implication the NCH, plus New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE) and others?
The Times Education Commission with proposals for reform due in June, adds further impetus and evidence ...
I read this evidence as supporting the argument that education and health are and always will be 'legacy issues', that is in need of change, investment, policy. All disciplines of study and knowledge are always dynamic and should be challenging, personally and collectively.
If institutions can distract themselves from fiscal incentive of the bums on seats for a few moments and policy makers look up from the dotting of I's and crossing of T's then student's learning can be energised by Hodges' model: a generic bootstrap for lifelong learning.
Just to be clear. This model is NOT about boxes, it is about being aware of boundaries and being prepared to cross and use these journeys.
In the 21st century we are humbled by what now constitutes the pantology - the system of all knowledge. No individual can take in - apprehend and master it all, but we should have a means to at least conceptually touch this incredible gift.

The PhD Scholarship provides funding for successful applicants to attain a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
The PhD Scholarship is a funding agreement between Suicide Prevention Australia and the applicant’s Administering Institution (a University in Australia).
The PhD Scholarship aims to support outstanding graduates who are at the early part of their research career. The Scholarship supports research relevant to all aspects of suicide prevention and to develop a capacity for original independent research within Australia.

The Rosamund Snow Scholarship for Patient-Led Research
"Rosamund Snow, who died in February 2017, had type 1 diabetes. After completing a Master’s degree in Social Sciences at King’s College London, she went on to study for a PhD in the patient experience of diabetes. She became a respected academic at the University of Oxford, undertaking research and teaching medical students about the importance of the patient perspective. She believed passionately in patients working alongside clinicians to produce research and teaching that is informed by the (often under-valued) expertise in what it is like to live with an illness. She used her own expertise from experience to question and challenge norms of medical practice, always striving to improve patient care. After her death, Rosamund’s family generously donated funding to Green Templeton College at the University of Oxford, to allow others to be trained to continue the work she started." The Gretta Foundation - Increasing the Global Nurseforce
I was asked recently if I could assist a nurse in Tanzania regards training in the UK. As ever things are not straight forward in terms of funding and opportunities for overseas students. Several UK university schools did kindly respond with information about the current situation. Not unrelated then, I noticed this announcement on the GANM (Global Alliance for Nursing and Midwifery) list:
I wanted to distribute the link to the Gretta Foundation to the GANM membership.
As you all know, one of the biggest requests that we get in the GANM are those that involve education. This includes not only requests for online continuing education, but also opportunities for nurses to obtain advanced nursing degrees without leaving their countries, their families and their communities.
I came across this today on the web and I forward on to all of you. The Gretta Foundation (named after Gretta Styles) has - as its mission -
"Our mission is to increase the global “Nurseforce” by providing full nursing scholarships to impoverished persons living in disease-burdened nations.
Nursing scholarship recipients, or Gretta Scholars, attend in-country nursing programs. In repayment for the scholarship assistance, graduating scholars serve for a predetermined period of time in their country’s clinics and hospitals."
