Hodges' Model: Welcome to the QUAD: marketing

Hodges' model is a conceptual framework to support reflection and critical thinking. Situated, the model can help integrate all disciplines (academic and professional). Amid news items, are posts that illustrate the scope and application of the model. A bibliography and A4 template are provided in the sidebar. Welcome to the QUAD ...

'Apps such as TikTok and Instagram are filled with videos of young girls and teenagers advising their peers on elaborate skincare routines, especially through a popular line of content called "Get Ready with Me".

Parents have sounded the alarm over this trend, while recent medical literature has recognised the phenomenon of "cosmeticorexia", also called "dermorexia", defined as a culturally reinforced preoccupation or obsession with achieving "flawless" skin that can lead to "excessive, age-inappropriate or compulsive use of cosmetic products".'

'Italy is investigating a beauty retailer and make-up brand owned by French luxury group LVMH over claims their marketing has fuelled "cosmeticorexia", an unhealthy obsession with skincare among young girls.
The Italian Competition and Market Authority (AGCM) said yesterday it was probing Sephora and Benefit Cosmetics for suspected "unfair commercial practices" with the promotion of skincare products such as face masks, serums and anti-ageing creams to girls as young as 10 years old.
Those marketing campaigns were carried out mainly via social media, the  regulator said, leading young girls to "compulsively" buy such products.'

Chocolate for breakfast? What choice in Gaza?

What are we doing?

Sainsbury's

The first time - ages ago - I noticed chocolate in cereals, I was shocked, incredulous and yet did nothing. The other day I asked to speak to the manager in Sainsbury's and complained (non-personally) and will in other stores.

The irony now is the choice the people can exercise in Gaza - is food being used as a weapon of war?

Why the posts about books?

Since I started this blog in April 2006 book tagged posts are numerous; almost 300 in fact.

https://hodges-model.blogspot.com/search?q=book

As with the previous post "Spare Parts" many are not even a review of the book in question. Use of about here is a misnomer. Currently, there are 51 posts tagged 'review', probably not all text book.

So, why bother? These posts are intended to suggest and possibly show the scope of Hodges' model. The placement of the book within a particular care (knowledge) domain is no accident.

Even though there is often overlap between the domains there is often a primary placement.

This is were you the reader (learner, teacher, policy maker ...) come in, as the model invites you to interrogate the book's title and often, its very informative (for commercial reasons) subtitle.

Mental Pollution

Unbranded Advertising

Unbranded advertising of prescription medicines to the public by pharmaceutical companies (Protocol)

Health - Literacy?

Digital Ad# Fraud
False / Fake Ads

Hodges' model makes explicit the divide between the public and the public's understanding of science.

Consider here the increased noise in advertising channels since the millennium as the media multiply, in addition to false advertising the rise of fake ads. Fake ads for jobs, drugs, goods and a littering of click-bait. Contactless plastic that touches the deepest oceans. Consumerism has become post-truth as any sense of 'standards' are undermined on several fronts.

The overlaps and increased complexity then become apparent.

Leadership Qualities Framework: individuals, teams, boards and systems

I've been catching up on some reading and according to Mike Cooke the (NHS) Leadership Qualities Framework includes vision, emotional intelligence and continued delivery of results. To which he adds:

'We need all three plus the marketing and political skills and some productive leadership skills thrown in. It is about balance in individuals, teams, boards and systems.'
So in Hodges' model then:

individualsystems
teamsboards

There is nothing special about this formulation whether as part of the Leadership Qualities Framework or Hodges' model. Individuals, teams, boards and systems are fundamental building blocks to any attempt to encapsulate and understand the world of local, regional and global health and much more besides.
