A few last spots are still available for the school, taking place in Trento, Italy, on 13-17 July 2026.

The school is open to anyone interested in AI for Healthcare: Master and PhD students, researchers, clinicians, physicians, data scientists, AI engineers, and professionals working at the intersection of AI and healthcare.

Master and PhD students benefit from a reduced fee: 470 EUR.
The regular fee is 495 EUR.

This year’s edition will focus on:

• Medical Imaging
• Smart Hospitals
• Patient Trajectories

- with attention to concrete healthcare problems and to different AI research perspectives, including generative AI and neuro-symbolic AI.

"Sir Ian McGeechan has led calls for radical change before a rugby union player dies on the pitch, branding the game unnecessarily dangerous and saying that World Rugby would be accused of negligence if it allows the situation to continue. In a strongly worded letter to Bill Beaumont, the World Rugby chairman, McGeechan and other British and Irish Lions greats, have urged the governing body to reduce the number of available replacements from eight to four to limit the impact that fresh players can make by coming off the bench in the final quarter." p.1.

"Almost a quarter of professional rugby players may have brain damage, the first study of its kind suggests.

Scientists used advanced brain imaging and analysis to compare elite rugby players with rowers and other noncontact athletes as well as people who played no sport.

Using methods often applied to the study of patients with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s,, the team found that rugby players had significant damage to their brain’s white matter, its 'wiring'."

"“Work ability” has been developed as an important multi-factorial concept that can be used to identify workers at risk of an imbalance between health, personal resources and work demands[2]. An individual’s work ability is determined by his or her perception of the demands at work and their ability to cope with them. The current challenge in using the concept is to establish adequate tools to evaluate and measure work ability continuously, in order to capture the changing and evolving functional and cognitive capacities of the worker in various contexts.  ...

The holistic approach for work ability modelling captures the attitudes and abilities of the ageing worker and enables decision support for personalised interventions for maintenance/improvement of work abilities. ...

The modelling of work ability will consider:

• generic user models (groups ofusers),
• personalised patient models,

WellCo: Wellbeing and Health virtual Coach

"The WellCo European H2020 project (2017-2021), delivers a radical new information and communication technologies (ICT) based solution in the pro-vision of personalised advice, guidance,and follow-up for its users. Its goal is to encourage people to adopt healthier habits that help them maintain or improve their physical, cognitive, mental, and social well-being for as long as possible. Advice is given through behaviour change interventions tailored explicitly to each user. These interventions range from setting social goals to recommending activities around the seven areas defined in WellCo: cognitive stimulation, leisure and entertainment, supporting groups, physical activity, health status, nutrition, and tips (Figure 1). The behaviour change concept leverages the Behaviour Change Wheel model [2]." p.37.

SpacePort and Moon

There are a series of images on TechRepublic including:

The view from above is reminiscent of crop circles. Officials hope Spaceport America will be operational in late 2009 or early 2010.

Apart from the little matter of punching of a big hole in the atmosphere, it is great to see another return to the moon - this time SELENE from Japan.

Working on the socio-technical structures paper, I need to summarise existing socio-technical approaches in the literature. The moon will figure in this paper too - an ideal light to help explain why s-t perspectives are essential.

I visited a nursing home this week (not much choice there as a Community Mental Health Nurse for Older Adults): the surprise though - no PCs.
